Europeanization through the Rule of Law Reform

The rule of law and particularly the quality of judiciary remain serious problems which hamper EU integration of the SEE countries. This is why the research project “Europeanization through the Rule of Law Reform” considers the problem of quality of judiciary in Serbia in order to empirically test the benchmarks of independence and efficiency based on the competence of the judiciary.

Identity Politics and Democratization in Montenegro and Austria

The project aims to construction of a framework for the comparative study of the political dynamics in contemporary Montenegro and Austria. To date, a considerable number of individual analyses of the cases in question have been published. At the same time, despite substantial similarities between them as regards recent historical experiences, quality comparative research is yet to be done.

Policy Dialogue in the Field of Social Sciences in Serbia

Marko Kmezic participates as a Working Group member in a Project “Policy Dialogue in the Field of Social Sciences in Serbia” aimed at influencing necessary systemic changes in social science research in Serbia. Project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
This RRPP policy dialogue initiative in Serbia has a twofold objective:
1. Improvement of scientific production quality in Serbian social sciences;
2. Securing that social science research is carried out and implemented for the country’s socio-economic development and welfare.

Europeanization by Rule of Law Implementation in the Western Balkans

Under the auspices of the Regional Research Promotion Programme coordinated and operated by the Interfaculty Institute for Central and Eastern Europe at the University of Fribourg and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Marko Kmezic is realizing research project on Europeanization by rule of law implementation in the Western Balkans (WB). Strengthening of the rule of law and the accession to the European Union (EU) have been fraught with difficulties in the WB for over 20 years.
