Equality Bodies in the EU and in SEE. Different Approaches, Good Practices and Mutual Learning
According to Art 13 of the EU Directive implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective or racial or ethnic origin states have to designate a body for the promotion of equal treatment. These Equality Bodies have to provide independent assistance to victims of discrimination, conduct independent surveys concerning discrimination and publish independent reports and make recommendations on discrimination related issues. The presentation will explore the ways in which EU Member states and candidate countries have chosen to transpose this provision, what kind of good practices have developed and the extent to which learning takes place among member states and between member states and candidate countries. On this basis, some indicators will be presented for further discussion that could be used in the monitoring of pre- (and post-) accession compliance with this provision of the Directive.
