CSEES selected to implement the project 'Promoting Human Rights and Minority Protection In South East Europe'

The Centre for Southeast European Studies of the University of Graz is selected to implement the Project 'Promoting Human Rights and Minority Protection In South East Europe' (Publication of good Practice) supported by the Council of Europe and European Union. The project aims to improve access to rights for minorities at various levels of government based upon Council of Europe standards in this field and in particular on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM) and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (ECRML).

Handkommentar zum Rahmenübereinkommen zum Schutz nationaler Minderheiten (RÜ)

Am 22. September wurde im Österreichischen Außenministerium der Handkommentar zum Rahmenübereinkommen zum Schutz nationaler Minderheiten (RÜ) präsentiert. Unter der Moderation von Mitherausgeberin Emma Lantschner sprachen der ehemalige Präsident des Beratenden Ausschusses zum RÜ und Hauptherausgeber des Kommentars Prof. Rainer Hofmann, das aktuelle Mitglied im Beratenden Ausschuss für Österreich Prof. Brigitta Busch, sowie die Autoren Prof. Gerhard Hafner, Anna Fontaine und Dr. Günther Rautz (Mitherausgeber).

Study on Minority Rights Published

The European Union just published the study "Mainstreaming Human and Minority Rights in the EU Enlargement with the Western Balkans". The study was commissioned by the European Parliament and written by the Uni-ETC and the Centre for Southeast European Studies. It was presented to the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament in November 2012

Presentation of a Report on Minority Rights and the EU in the Western Balkans to the European Parliament

Wolfgang Benedek and Lisa Heschl from the Uni-ETC and Florian Bieber from the Centre for Southeast European Studies presented the joint study on "Human Rights Mainstreaming in the EU Enlargement Process in the Western Balkans with a Special Focus on Minorities" to the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament on 29 November 2012. Emma Lantschner and Joseph Marko were also contributors to the study. The study will be available shortly from the website of the Subcommittee.
